PHOTOS OF MARSPORT BRITTANYS…Hunting At A Higher Level

With the help of Jeff Gilchrist, who has 3 Marsport dogs he has trained to Master Hunt Test titles, a number of good folks who have Marsport dogs, or who have bred Marsport dogs, have gone on to higher levels of hunting by earning AKC Senior and Master Hunt Test titles. Still another has earned a Dual Champion (show Champion & a field Champion) or have won or placed at field trials. About 10 have earned higher level titles, with more on the way. At the Senior and Master levels dogs must hold point, be steady to wing and shot, retrieve to hand and honor and back…what a nice day in the field.

Thank you Jeff and the wonderful owners of Marsport bred dogs.

ABOUT AKC HUNT TESTS
Hunt tests are fun and a fun way to expand your field experience with your dog. Judges can be helpful in pointing out little things you and your dog can improve. Hunt tests are held year round except for the hot summer months. With training most Marsport dogs are capable of earning advanced titles. It is so nice to go afield with a dog that holds point and retrieves with no need for you to get upset as your dog blows a bird out of range. About 15 owners of Marsport Brittanys have earned Junior Hunt Test titles on their dogs. I would say all Marsport Brittanys are capable of earning the Junior Hunt Test title, and advanced titles, if the owner is willing to work toward it.

A total of 14 dogs ran, 6 qualified , 3 were Marsport dogs with the 3 highest scores (another dog tied for second).

Remarkably Jasper earned his AKC Senior Hunt Test title the same weekend as Trace. Says Bob “I waited years for a dog that hunts so remarkably well. What a pleasure to have everything go so well in the field. But I can tell you; you have to put your time in too. Marsport provided the genes and the support system, Jeff and I provided the training. And Jasper is my buddy too.” Jasper is also a show champion. Jasper with his recent ribbons -- what a dog! Jasper is Sired by : Ch. Sanbar’s Call When Readi.- Dam, Ch. Trace, Jeff’s newest Marsport dog, earned his AKC Master Hunt Test title at 16 months of age. He was named The Greater Indianapolis Brittany Club’s Hunt Test Dog of the Year (2012). Says Jeff  “He is one heck of a fine pointing dog. He has the potential for greatness.”  States Jeff about one of his other Marsport MH titled dogs “ Indiana celebrated her 13th birthday by guiding a hunt and finding, pointing and retrieving her 6000th bird. A heartfelt thank you my friend. My life was blessed when I crossed trails with you, "John.” (also the two two below on the left hand side).

Very proud of Timber yesterday. He earned a Prize I in the NAVHDA Natural Ability test yesterday. Only a handful earned that prize. He was the only Brittany amongst all the German shorthairs. Not sure if you know what the testing involves but he had to run for 20 minutes in a field and find at least 2 birds demonstrate desire, bird finding, pointing and cooperation. He found 4 birds.  He had to track a pheasant and he had to swim twice to retrieve 2 bumpers. Frank and I worked hard in the past month with his training. Took me a while to get him to swim the past month but he did it.  Many nice compliments. We are so pleased with him he is a fantastic dog.!  Frank Noreika
